Today I am using the Kuretake Fabricolor fabric pens which i love with all my heart and soul. Been using them since they first came out here in the USA. We got in some inexpensive canvas tote bags and I knew I just had to start embellishing them.
I use muslin which makes it nice for those of you budding coloring artists. You can slip a picture behind the muslin and using a light box or a window with good sunlight... you can trace. The muslin is thin enough to see through. I trace with a black and then heat set with an iron and color in
I choose a few pieces of fabric that have some of the similar colors as the design has and I cut those to mat the finished piece onto. I also save all my scraps ( i know, of course I do ) and use those as little accents tucked underneath when I sew.
The bags need to be ironed before you sew. Then I pin the little patch on the bag and start to sew.
Make sure you catch each layer of fabric when you are sewing and also be careful not to sew through the bag or catch the straps in your sewing
I cannot stress enough how important ironing is. I iron after each step and then again at the end. The heatsetting will help the color to stay in place.
And that's it. Ta Dah!!! You have a finished bag all ready to take on the road with you to the lake or the beach!
Wanna buy my totes.... hahaha, shameless plug...
see below.
These are the two shows they will be featured at this summer. Come on by if you live in the area.

What a darling project. I just HAVE to get some of those pens. I have a few plain totes tucked away somewhere and your have inspired me to tackle a project like this. Oh, and I just LOVE that little camper of yours!
Love the tote! Great idea to trace onto the muslin fabric for those of use who are challenged/overwhelmed with drawing and doodling a design!
I hope to make it to the Craft Faire at Prospector's!
I love how your tote turned out, in fact I would love to win the markers so I can make the tote. And I have another canvas tool bag like thingy I got at Harbor Freight for about $10 and it's cream colored so I've been wanting to decorate it and then I would be able to do it too. But I need to buy some ink for my printer so I can print out the trailer. I love it!!
LOVE this tote and especially the tutorial that goes with it !! Thanks for the opportunity to win some goodies ....
